Eircode Integrated into TomTom Maps to Accurately
Locate Addresses for Delivery

February 2018: Eircode is pleased to announce that TomTom has integrated Eircode into its map of the Republic of Ireland, enabling retailers to easily capture addresses, delivery agents to deliver to Irish households more reliably and efficiently, and users of TomTom products to more easily find locations.

The Eircode system, a seven character code assigned to digitally identify every location with an address, makes life a little more straightforward for Irish citizens.

Using the Eircode system is a simple way of standardising individual addresses so that
locations can be pinpointed more easily, for example by the National Ambulance  Service. Eircode simplifies route planning for both the public and businesses and enables accurate and efficient provision of goods and services.

TomTom has worked with Eircode to source, integrate and deliver Eircode within TomTom maps for the geospatial, telematics and automotive markets. TomTom’s maps are licensed to a wide range of software developers, retailers, application providers and logistics firms who will benefit from Eircode within the maps they use to evaluate markets, address their customers, route vehicles, schedule and manage fleets.

Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Denis Naughten TD, said: “The use of Eircode by TomTom reinforces the role and importance of Eircode in our digital society and smarter cities. Having TomTom as an Eircode Solution Provider means that members of the public and businesses can use Eircodes within TomTom Maps on mobile phones and tablets to accurately locate addresses and get directions.”

Liam Duggan, Managing Director of Eircode , adds, “We are excited to see TomTom join a list of global enterprises integrating the Eircode system to the benefit of the public and businesses.”

The Eircode Finder, https://finder.eircode.ie/#/ is a free to use online platform that
members of the public and businesses use to find Eircodes for addresses and get directions to address locations using the Eircode like a satnav. Since the launch in July 2015, Eircode usage, as part of an address, continues to grow and is used widely among the public, businesses and public sector. This, in part, can be seen by use stats of the free Eircode
Finder app:
  • 21 million free lookups since launch July 2015
  • Average daily hit rate of 37,000
  • Average monthly look ups has increased from 340,000 January 2016 to 1.17 million January 2018
